The Backyard Refuge
Design/Build: Wild Tree Woodworks
Woodinville, Washington
One of our favorite families, these clients — two grade school teachers — hired us to create additional play space for their young daughters. What we designed for them was indeed a place for kids to stretch their imaginations, but it’s also a place for adults!
Tucked into the trees on a backyard slope, this rustic cabin feels very cozy inside. Cedar siding doubles as interior paneling, and reclaimed windows and doors — rehabilitated in our workshop — add to the warm, old-time feeling.
The loft is perfect for playtime and naps. We installed a Caboose wood stove and Ben built a custom shelf with heat shield. In the wintertime this treehouse is a refuge, a place to get away from it all.
Exterior details include an entrance staircase and a plate railing for outdoor dining. Careful flashing and trim details, as well as metal roofing and rain gutters, ensure that this treehouse will last for decades.
“What a wonderful journey the treehouse has been! We are loving it! Thanks for such a great experience!”
