Island Life Treehouse
Design/Build: Wild Tree Woodworks
San Juan Island, Washington
We love when our clients bring a lot of energy to a project, and that was the case with this treehouse on an island in the Salish Sea. Ben made the initial site visit to evaluate the trees and make measurements, and David used Ben’s notes to create the design. Working closely with our clients, David dialed in the design details and ensured that the design fit the budget.
Project scope called for a three-season treehouse with a wood stove and small loft. The treehouse would be used to host happy hour and game nights: an adult playhouse adjacent to the primary home. Our client’s original idea was to source an antique parlor stove, but that proved challenging and instead a classic Jotul F 602 was chosen.
An old-time sawyer on the island cut all the framing, siding, and sheathing. The interior shiplap flooring was milled onsite by the crew. Four reclaimed windows and three handmade ones were prepared by Ben, who led this build with a solid crew. They completed the treehouse in just 17 days.
We like to call this treehouse “Island Life” — Pacific Northwest style.
“I am very pleased with how things are going with the treehouse. Jenny and I are enjoying the process very much. All the guys have been wonderful. Ben is very much a professional and is refreshing to deal with.”
